Varifocal lenses for facing emerging challenges in biophotonics

Several recent approaches for programmable and focus-tunable optics based on wavefront shaping will be discussed and compared. Sample customizable and fast performance covering a large imaging volume are highly desirable for challenging biomedical applications, such as deep-tissue imaging or optogenetic manipulation in the brain.
