Development of optical teaching starting from both design and calculation of optical instruments to studying in physical optics, optoelectronics and photonics are mentioned. Additionally the following topics are considered: main results of optical research, including optical methodology, basic investigations in physical optics and progress in optical computing technology. Finally a review of editorial activity in optics i.e. books and Optica Applicata is presented.
