The interest in SBN crystals has been grown for the last years due to its effective implementation for the generation of photorefractive solitons, whereas the parameters of the corresponding samples play an important role. In this work we present experimental methods for the investigation of beam fanning and two-wave-mixing in a SBN crystal. We analyze the electrooptical coefficients of the crystal, temporal characteristics of beam amplification and fanning formation in dependence on polarization and intensity of the beams, and on the external electric field. Light power and wavelength of the incident laser beam were correspondingly 3 mW and 633 nm.
