Standardisation on the field of optical coatings began in the seventy's of the last century when optical coatings became technical standards in the application for optical instruments. The different producers and customers asked for uniform definitions of the optical properties of the coatings and special requirements belonging to their stability under chemical, physical and environmental conditions. This report shall give an survey over the DIN-standards which are renewed and supplemented with some new standards for minimum requirements and testing, the latest for laser application. Finally the DIN-Standards are compared with standardisation on ISO-level. Remarks are made due to the international importance and their meaning in future.
